To further the comprehensive training of its students and as part of its cultural commitment, the Â鶹¹û¶³ has facilities such as the teatro de la ciudad universitaria (university campus theatre) and has established initiatives like the Vigo and Ourense Theatre Workshop, which are responsible for programming theatre training throughout the academic year and organising the MITEU (International University Theatre Festival) on both campuses. On the Ourense campus, the university has a contemporary dance studio that offers training in this discipline to anyone interested.

Ourense Campus

University dance spaces began to appear throughout Spain in the 1990s to bring dance closer to members of the university community, creating bridges and relationships through dance professionals.Ìý

Their aims focus on research, creation, learning, promoting audiences for dance, and using dance as a community, social, and educational tool. These spaces encourage communication with other universities, the creation of exchange networks and exhibitions with other university dance spaces, cohesion between the different groups that make up the university community, and openness to the general public.Ìý

The contemporary dance studio is directed by Nuria Sotelo, a dancer and choreographer who is a regular member of the Matarile Teatro cast and occasional collaborator with other companies such as Sarabela Teatro, Aporia Teatro, etc.Ìý

The was founded in 1991 under the direction of the Sarabela Theatre Company and is part of the university outreach courses offered by the Â鶹¹û¶³. Throughout the academic year, the theatre classroom offers theatre training courses in various disciplines. It is structured into three training levels: Rosaura, Cordelia, and Maricastaa, each lasting one academic year. It also offers a children's theatre workshop, featuring theatre performed by adults and aimed at children.

The theatre workshop organises the Ìýas well as series of conferences, discussions, theatrical actions, etc.Ìý

Sarabela is made up of professional theatre directors, actors, and technicians, as well as specialists in pedagogy, philology, and people with degrees in dramatic arts. Acting training in a wide variety of disciplines is the first step before staging productions. Currently, the teaching team is made up of members of Sarabela, with guest lecturers and teachers from outside the company joining each year.Ìý

Pontevedra Campus

Vigo Campus

The theatre workshop in Vigo offers two training workshops. In the first semester, the introduction to theatre workshop analyses the basics (body work, voice, improvisation, etc.). In the second semester, the staging workshop prepares the chosen play for its premiere and performance at the MITEU Festival and other venues.

MITEU International University Theatre Festival

The International University Theatre Festival (Muestra Internacional de Teatro Universitario, MITEU) is the culmination of the activities of the university theatre workshops in Ourense, Pontevedra, and Vigo, as well as an important generator of great social and cultural intervention. MITEU seeks to promote artistic and human exchange between university and professional actors from Galicia, the Iberian Peninsula and abroad. At the end of each MITEU performance, there is a discussion about the play, the rehearsal process, and the different management of the university groups. Over the years, as the number of performances has increased, this discussion has become a meeting point between the companies and the public.

MITEU has become a cultural conglomerate, with a core of university theatre, but with a considerable increase in professional theatre programming combined with concerts, exhibitions, talks, meetings, courses, entertainment, etc.Ìý
