Sonora Festival

Sonora is the festival for new music at the Â鶹¹û¶³

The Sonora season coincides with the arrival of spring and is a chance to enjoy the pleasure of seeing and hearing the sounds that speak to our emotions. Sonora aims to bring the most current and contemporary languages of popular music in all its forms to the heart of the university community. This open and free musical project defines a university committed to the dissemination of arts and culture.
Since its inception in 2005, the Sonora Festival has filled the Vidal Bolao Theatre on the university campus every year with new musical offerings. Sonora has mixed different styles at the yearly events. It has welcomed emerging and established artists to its stage, such as Malandrmeda with its fusion of electronic music and hip-hop, and Los Bengala from Zaragoza in 2018.

Over the years, the springtime Sonora festival has featured artists who are renewing urban music, such as DJ Royce Rolo and Agorazein, the hip-hop project created by C. Tangana, Sticky M.A., Fabianni, Jerv.agz and I-Ace. Also appearing on stage at these events were bands such as Tringulo de Amor Bizarro and leading figures in new Galician music such as Caxade.

The music of Ortiga and Dani will headline the Sonora '2.3 festival organised by the Vice-Rector’s Office for University Outreach. Dani, Daniela Daz Costas, from Vigo and a former student of Advertising and Audiovisual Communication at the Â鶹¹û¶³, will present her new album Posdata at 5.30 p.m., following her debut last year with Veinte.

Ortiga will bring their fresh, danceable sounds to the Vidal Bolao, combining the spirit of traditional fiesta dances with Latin rhythms, fusing cumbia, merengue, bachata, and autotune. Manuel Gonzlez, Chicho, will perform songs from his albums Chicho & Sus Chichas and Sabes el Camino Que Eleg.

Admission is free until the venue is full.
