Healthy habits

Physical activity

Physical activity and an active lifestyle can reduce stress, anxiety and depression and improve mental health. Physical activity integrated into the daily routine is a powerful tool for promoting health and preventing and managing illnesses. This has been demonstrated in several studies that suggest that doing moderate exercise for a minimum of thirty minutes, five times a week, halves the risk of suffering illnesses such as cardiovascular diseases, circulatory problems and type-2 diabetes that are caused by physical inactivity. Additionally, exercise also helps regulate cholesterol levels, excess weight, and obesity

At the Â鶹¹û¶³, you can exercise at the Wellbeing, Health and Sports Department facilities, the Ourense and Vigo University Sports Centres (C.D.U.), or any of their collaborating organisations. As well as organised exercise, you can lead an active lifestyle in many ways. For example, you can try to move around on foot or ride a bike as much as possible, meet people for walks, take your coffee break in a different campus building, park your car a little farther away from your workplace, get off the bus a stop early, walk or ride a bike to the campus, use the routes and paths through the university grounds to discover the campus, or use the stairs instead of the lift or escalator.

Nutrition

Following a good diet is important, not only for your health, but also to keep your physical and mental wellbeing optimum. Your food intake must meet the individual demands of your physical activity and work habits

Addiction prevention

The Â鶹¹û¶³ aims to raise awareness about the risks of falling into different addictions and offers help to university community members so they can manage their behaviour in a responsible way in their academic,  work, and leisure time. Addiction treatments for soft drugs are also offered, as well as referrals to help centres when necessary

Emotional wellbeing

Learning how to regulate your emotions, managing, channelling and making them positive, is an important part of life. We are constantly attributing affective and emotional meanings to events that happen around us. Learning how to deal with adverse or negative emotions and encourage positive emotions is key for our wellbeing

Affective sexuality

We propose various activities to promote self-reflection about sexuality and affection, as well as different tools that allow us to develop healthy sexual behaviours. We touch on basic concepts to do with sexuality, risky behaviours, positive affection among others, and we give information about the resources available in and around the campus.
