The Observatory of Equality is a resource whose objective is to draw up reports on existing inequalities in the university, the causes that provoke them and their consequences. ÌýHaving data presented and analysed from a gender perspective helps us to understand the need to implement equality policies.

The Distintivo de Igualdade

The Distintivo de Igualdade is an award that has been created to make visible and give public and institutional recognition to the efforts of many people who work every day to research, teach, transfer, manage and produce scientific knowledge, incorporating a gender and feminist perspective in our university. This pioneering initiative aims to recognise the work of the centres, schools and faculties to promote real and effective equality between women and men to build a more humane, egalitarian and just university.

Guide to good practice

Free access to menstrual products

From March 2021, Â鶹¹û¶³ has provided free access to menstrual products on the three university campuses. Each school and faculty has a dispenser that is activated by the student university card. It allows you to choose between tampons and sanitary towels, which are distributed in boxes of three units, up to a maximum of three per month.Ìý

With this measure, Â鶹¹û¶³ has become a pioneer in Spain in providing free menstrual management products. Moreover, this action gives visibility and dignifies menstruation, a basic need that should no longer be treated as a taboo.Ìý

Positive actions at Â鶹¹û¶³

The Â鶹¹û¶³ has approved two affirmative action measures to put an end to situations of inequality detected in the research career.Ìý

These measures have been adopted to correct discrimination and gender gaps caused by a sexist and unequal social system.

Aid for teaching and awareness-raising activities

The Equality Unit promotes an annual aid programme to finance teaching and awareness-raising activities with a gender perspective.Ìý

This programme aims to raise awareness of gender inequality and the causes that lead to it, in order to involve the entire university community in achieving a fairer environment. Ìý

Anyone in the university community can apply to organise awareness-raising activities. Teaching activities are aimed at teaching and research staff.

Campaigns: 11F, 8M, and 25N

The Â鶹¹û¶³ should give continuity to the institutional awareness campaigns around the celebration of 11 February (International Day of Women and Girls in Science), 8 March (International Women's Day) and 25 November (International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women). It should also carry out awareness-raising campaigns on specific aspects of gender inequalities between women and men.
