Welcome to the I Galician Conference on Astronomy and Astrophysics Research!

It is a pleasure to welcome you to the official website of the Galician Conference on Astronomy and Astrophysics Research, an event that aims to consolidate a meeting point for the Galician scientific community working in the field of astronomy and astrophysics, both within and outside Galicia.

The congress will be held on July 17th and 18th, and is conceived as a unique opportunity to promote knowledge exchange, present recent results, share new methodologies, and create synergies between researchers from different institutions and areas of expertise. We want to foster an open, dynamic, collaborative environment in which both new and established researchers will have the opportunity to present their work and establish new contacts.

We invite you to actively participate in this first meeting, contributing your work and ideas to the promotion of Galician astronomical research.Your participation is essential to make this initiative a success and to strengthen the presence of our community in the current scientific scene.

Thank you for joining us in this first edition.

We count on you to make this conference a starting point for new collaborations and future projects!

In this section, you will find a list of all the people registered in the I Galician Conference on Astronomy and Astrophysics Research. Researchers from different institutions will participate in this meeting to share results, exchange ideas, and promote new collaborations in the field of Galician astronomy and astrophysics.

We thank everyone for their involvement and enthusiasm in making this event a space for scientific meetings and growth.

At the I Galician Conference on Astronomy and Astrophysics Research, we are committed to creating a safe, respectful and inclusive environment for all participants. This event is based on the principles of equality, mutual respect, and freedom from discrimination.

As the Scientific Organising Committee and the Local Organising Committee of the I Galician Conference on Astronomy and Astrophysics Research, we assume that all participants share our commitment to creating a meeting environment that values diversity and inclusion and, therefore, is free of abuse. We want to promote a diverse environment with respectful and courteous behaviour, and therefore, expect all participants to comply with the following guidelines:

  1. Behave professionally. Refrain from abuse in any form, including continuous interruption of presentations, inappropriate physical contact and intimidation. This also includes offensive comments related to individual characteristics, e.g. age, gender, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, ethnicity, nationality, or religion.
  2. Ensure that all communication is appropriate for a professional audience, taking into account the different backgrounds of the participants. Language and sexual or sexist gestures are not appropriate.
  3. Be respectful and do not insult participants or facilitators of the event.
  4. Criticise ideas, not people.
  5. If you witness a case of harassment, bullying, or aggression, approach the person affected to show support and find out how they are coping. As a witness, you can suggest that the affected person reports the inappropriate behaviour, but it is up to the affected person to decide whether they wish to report it or not.
  6. We recommend obtaining permission from the rapporteur if you want to share photos or videos of a presentation on social media. You are free to share the content of the talks/slideshows via social media, unless the rapporteurs have requested not to share specific details/slideshows.

Participants can confidentially report any deviation from these guidelines to any member of the Local Organising Committee (who will be easily recognisable at the conference). Participants who are asked to cease any harassing behaviour are expected to comply immediately and, in serious cases, may be asked to leave the event.

Thank you for helping us make the I Galician Conference on Astronomy and Astrophysics Research a welcoming, respectful, and interesting meeting for everyone.

Attribution: This Code of Conduct has been adapted from the Machine Learning Meets Galaxy Classification Workshop Code of Conduct.

We would like to express our most sincere thanks to all the public entities, sponsoring groups, and associations that made the celebration of the I Galician Conference on Astronomy and Astrophysics Research possible.

Thanks to their commitment, we can offer a meeting platform for researchers, promote scientific dissemination, and encourage the creation of new synergies between the different working groups. Your support and collaboration are essential for the success of this event and for the strengthening of astronomical and astrophysical research in Galicia.

We would like to especially thank the 鶹 (鶹) and Vigo City Council for their institutional and financial support for this conference (July 17-18), including the public outreach event (July 16) and the ٰԴdz exhibition (July 15-30). Without their significant support, this conference and its events would not be possible. We would like to make special mention of the role played by the Rector and the Vice-Rectorates for Research, Transfer, and Innovation and for Communication and Institutional Relations, the Marine Research Center (CIM), 鶹-TV, Linguistic Normalization Area (ANL), Computer Services, Research Support Centers Area (AINCE), Mobile Park, the Press Office at UVIGO, and by the Mayor and Mayor's Office of Vigo, as well as the Departments of Citizen Services, of Culture and of Tourism and Youth.

We would like to acknowledge the support, assistance, and collaboration of the Vigo Astronomical Association (AstroVigo), the Ras Baixas Astronomical Association, the Corua Ío Astronomical Association, the Ceo, Science and Culture Foundation (FC3), Linckia, Meigas Fora of the Tangarao Cultural Association, Eduardo Ojero Pascual, Carmen Gallego Otero and the ٰԴdz exhibition in the outreach and artistic activities carried out. Francisco Álvarez Villar, the Image Area, and theVice-Rectorate for Communication and Institutional Relations did a superb job providing, processing, and organizing the image and website of the congress.

We also greatly appreciate the sponsorship of the Galician Innovation Agency (GAIN / Xunta de Galicia) through the GAIN-FEUGA Agreement, as well as the contributions made by the Galician Skies (Ceos Galegos) and the FC3.

The Scientific Organizing Committee (SOC) would like to thank the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for their work, commitment, and dedication in making the 1st GIAA Congress and its associated activities a success. Both committees would like to express their gratitude for the support, receptivity, and participation of our colleagues in the Galician astronomy, astrophysics, and space exploration research community, both within and outside of Galicia.

In the framework of the I Galician Conference on Astronomy and Astrophysics Research, you will be able to visit theExhibition ٰԴdz.

  • 15st - 30th July, 9.00 a.m. - 14.00 p.m. (Monday-Friday). Open to the public and free entry.

The "ٰԴdz" exhibition focuses on women who have dedicated their days and nights to the study of astronomy. Its digital version, available at www.astronomas.org, features more than 300 astronomers who work or have worked in one or more of the 14 disciplines that structure the exhibition. It highlights a wide range of ethnic backgrounds, geographical areas, professional categories, and functional diversity. In addition to detailed information about each of the featured scientists, it includes various resources such as: an exploration of astronomy’s connections with other sciences and its relationship with culture (cinema, literature, art, etc.), downloadable educational brochures, interactive games, podcasts, and videos. All of this is accompanied by an original soundtrack composed by a young astrophysicist and musical talent. The exhibition also has a physical version consisting of 16 printed panels, available in different languages.

Among the goals of the "ٰԴdz" exhibition are: to promote scientific and technological vocations in general—and especially among girls and teenagers—to disseminate research carried out by women scientists in astronomy and astrophysics, as well as related innovations and future perspectives in these fields.
